Year 8 - Big Bang Fair Visit
On our exciting trip to the Big Bang Fair, Year 8 students explored the world of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM)
Through hands-on activities, experiments, and interactive exhibits. The event was packed with fascinating stalls from universities, companies, and STEM professionals who shared their knowledge and passion. Students had the chance to learn about careers in engineering, robotics, medicine and more by participating in:
- Robotics & Coding tasks - building simple circuits and trying out coding challenges, tackling robot mazes, playing drone soccer, coding with Pixelia, and flying paper drones.
- Science Demos and live science shows, completing experiments with liquidnitrogen and plasma balls.

ZooLabUK’s Biomimicry Theatre: A brand-new live show featuring snakes, geckos, and giant cockroaches to demonstrate how animals inspire engineering solutions.

Career Quizzes & Panels: Careers sessions to break down job stereotypes, and give students the opportunity to hear from professionals working in AI, dementia research, energy, and aerospace.
Meeting STEM Experts from:
- Industry & Universities - Over 50 exhibitors including RollsRoyce (submarine simulations, 3D printing), BBC, easyJet, National Highways, V&A, EPCC, and more all showcasing career and education pathways.
- Inspiration in Action: hearing from engineers, technologists, and scientists, gaining insight into real-world STEM careers, frequently mentioning they “never knew science could be so fun”.
The trip was both fun and inspiring, showing students how STEM subjects learned in school connect to real world jobs and innovations. Many students came away with new ideas for future careers and a fresh enthusiasm for science. They represented St. Peter’s wonderfully with their enthusiasm and politeness and it was lovely to have so many thanks us at the end of the trip.
